Simian King: If you're looking for good death metal, here's some suggestions:

Death (Technical Death Metal)
Specifically the songs: Lack of Comprehension, The Philosopher, Crystal Mountain, Painkiller (cover of the Judas Priest song), God of Thunder (cover of the KISS song)
Albums: Human, Individual Thought Patterns, Symbolic, Sound of Perseverance.

Gojira (Tech/Prog Death Metal)
Specifically the songs: Oroborus, Ocean Planet, A Sight to Behold, Backbone, Toxic Garbage Island
Albums: From Mars to Sirius, The Way of All Flesh

Meshuggah (Avant Garde Death Metal)
Specifically the songs: Bleed, Dancers to a Discordant System, Pineal Gland Optics, New Millennium Cyanide Christ (the music video for this song is hilarious)
Albums: obZen

Anyways, since this is my first time here, I guess I'll list off what types of metal I'm really into. :U

Mostly progressive (stuff like Mastodon, Baroness, Dream Theater, Opeth, etc.) or pretty much any metal genre that's fused with progressive.

I like some death metal (mostly tech or prog, stuff like Death, Meshuggah, and Gojira).

Avant Garde (Diablo Swing Orchestra, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum).

Been getting into quite a bit of black metal lately (Stuff like Agalloch, Wolves in the Throne Room, Nachtmystium, Bathory [pretty much stick to the viking metal stuff], early Behemoth, Alcest).

Also post-metal like Deathmole, Isis, Russian Circles, The Ocean.

And then some thrash like Megadeth, Metallica, Skeletonwitch (Blackened Thrash).

And finally, good old fashioned heavy metal of the likes of Dio, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc.

For some information on that link, it's a stream of Opeth's new album Heritage.
It's progressive metal. Album's due to be released on September 14th.

Really digging this album.
Akerfelt's got an edge to his clean voice that's pretty cool.
What annoys me about Opeth though is everytime I listen to them now, I'm reminded of Porcupine Tree, who, during their In Absentia and Deadwing albums, basically became an Opeth tribute band.
Which isn't bad really, because In Absentia and Deadwing are great albums, but still.
Album's jazzy as hell. :U
Methinks Gep would like this one.

Wut. Jethro Tull in my Opeth? WHAT KIND OF MADNESS IS THIS?
But it's awesome.

Dayum, I changed my mind. I was listening to Stratovarius just now, it gets a bit to be used to it, but it's pretty good.

No, I just didn't discover it, but I saw my previous post and I was like lolwut. My stuff!

Ganon you are welcome to the club :O XD

I do believe our boundaries in music here are larger than just heavy metal by the way, if anyone didn't know. Just thought I'd point it out Ooo

derp

I thought this was strictly a metal thread.
Anyways, you guys now know where I come from as far as metal goes, which seems quite a bit more "out there" (Death, post, avant garde, black metal, etc.) than most of you who stick to thrash and power metal (aside from Gep and sometimes John). .-.

Anyways, check out the death metal bands I posted if you're still interested in death metal.
Gojira and Death are two of my favorite bands of all time.

Wolves in the Throne Room's Celestial Lineage is coming out tomorrow.
Can't wait, it's by far the best metal release this year IMO.

I\'m not impressed

I see what you did there.
Chose the one Beatles song that's widely considered to be the first metal song of all time.

http://www.metalsucks.net/2011/09/20/low-blow-mike-portnoy-low-blow/#more-72671

Mike Portnoy's a douche. .-.
He left the band and has the balls to accuse them of "wrongfully excluding" him from the band?
I mean, I know Mike Portnoy's been portrayed as a controlling force in the band, but this (if there isn't something we don't know about) is on another level.
