Max glanced up to the man that had spoken to him, and was now approaching. He would have tried to get up, but shock paralyzed his legs to the point that he knew trying would be no use. He blinked.

"Stalker's... gone?" he asked softly, looking around. Indeed, Stalker seemed to be gone. That enraged shriek of his... Perhaps... "You shot him? He's dead?"

He tried to climb up and hug the policeman, filled with relief and not waiting for any answer. "Thank God, I thought I'd die..."
___

Stalker was, sadly enough, not dead. He managed to find an empty hallway in an empty part of the store, but it wasn't dark. The thought of using the light switch didn't cross his mind - instead, he shot the lamps. It didn't work very well, sure it got DARK but Stalker also got a big bunch of glass shards and noise upon himself. Grumbling to himself, he looked to the first side-room he saw and tried to enter it, locking himself in. Perhaps now he could tend to his wound.

Matthew lowered his gun and briefly considered heading down to join his allies.

"Nah," he said to himself. "Too much trouble."

And with that, he sat down and relaxed, confident that everyone else could deal with the evil shark thing without him. It wasn't like he'd be much help if he had gone down to join the rest. He was only effective at sniping range, after all, and the shark had gone into a building, where he couldn't get a clear shot unless it was stupid enough to lurk near a window. So it really was better if he stayed up in his perch, where nothing could hurt him. Or at least that's what he convinced himself.

Shaman patted his back softly, he knew how traumatic Infected attacks could be. "It's alright kid. Sadly I don't think that shot killed that thing, but it seemed to be enough to drive him away for now. It seemed to have fled into the supermarket building." Shaman looked around slowly "It seems clear now, but just in case-I should take you home."

Shaman pulled out his radio "Alright guys, I'm going to escort the civilian to his home. Jerome, Rosa, take a look inside the market to see if that thing is still alive. Shaman out."

"Got it Shaman." Jerome said. He was wondering why he was taking orders from what he thought was his subordinate, so he asked, "What rank are ya anyways? Never think I got it."
*******************************************************
Eddie scratched his nose, and began strumming his guitar. "Alright...maybe they're gone now...maybe the Infected left..." He looked at the wet, sticky substance on the floor, and gagged at the sight. "Jesus...I hate it here."

"He'll come home, though." Max whined. "H-He can't get in, but there's no food in there anymore. I need to gather some before I can head back..."

He snuggled up to the police officer. It had been very long since he last got to feel the comfort of another human being, another adult much like his mother had been. "It doesn't spread through bullets... Right? I won't become like Stalker?"
___

Stalker just sat quietly in the small room where he had found a hiding place, tending to his wound. He was hardly silent, but nevertheless managed to keep his voice down and listen for the noises of anything else that came. Perhaps, had his hearing been improved like that of certain other infected (improving your hearing was surprisingly difficult when all you had to work with was a shark), he would have heard the complaints of Eddie.

Shaman ruffled through his pack and pulled out a syringe "It might, so just in case." He took Max's arm gently and injected the shot. He had devised the medicine himself. It was designed to destroy any infection inside the body and when there was no more, destroy itself. Unfortunatly it was useless after infection had truely set in.

Jerome met up with Rosa. "Matthew, get ready to shoot this mother if he gets away. Just in case I don't get him in the first shot."

He looked at Rosa. "Alright, I'll take point. If ya hear anything, just run for it."
***********************************************************
Eddie was sick of waiting, despite it being only 5 minutes or less. "Ahh **** it," he exclaimed, unlocking the stall door.

As he got out, he slammed the door into Stalker's face. His face turned pale with fear, and he silently said to himself, "OH ****!"

"T-Thank you..." Max whimpered, looking away from the syringe as the long needle was pushed into his arm. He didn't even really feel it. Instead he let his eyes wander, clinging to his new protector.

"Are you... alone?" he asked softly in a desperate attempt to distract himself from the pain.
___

Stalker was just about ready to leave, but as soon as he started to get up to his feet a big door slammed into his face and sent him back onto his $$$. Rubbing his nose with one hand, he cried out angrily and got up, tearing the door from its hinges. How dared a door hit him out of nowhere like that?! Still with pieces of door in his hands, he then stopped. A civilian?

His angry snarl turned to a big grin, filled with needle-sharp claws. "It is!" he yipped, a sentence easy enough for him to say correctly, as he tried to grab Eddie and dig his clawed hand into his arm, just to prevent any easily-breakable sleeve trick. He followed it up with something, but whatever this was was far from as easy to understand.

Shaman packed the syringe away and patted his shoulder "Right now I am. But there are more soldiers out here, don't you worry."

A loud scream was heard from a corner in the bathroom. Jerome perked up, and immediately rushed to the scream.
**************************************************************
Eddie was still yelling, hoping that his yells would somehow hinder the infected. He lifted up his guitar, trying to keep himself safe. Due to his fear and concentration on the creature, he did not notice the hole in the wall right next to him, which would have been an easy escape.

Max murmured something agreeingly as he leaned against his saviour. Maybe it was something in the medicine he had just gotten or just the shock, he didn't know, but he felt exhausted. Clinging onto Shaman's clothes, he tried to pull himself to his feet as he near reflexively rambled his address. "5 4 3 4 Shift Street, yellow with a red fence... Stalker will go back there, for sure, if he escapes..."

After a second or so, he realized the problem with his own statement. Stalker would definately go back there. "You... you won't force me back there will you?"
___

Stalker didn't flinch from the yelling of his new victim - after all, a startlingly low percentage of people actually avoided screaming at some point during their murder. The guitar did a better job at keeping him at bay, although this too only worked for a moment and mostly served to anger the Infected. He hissed and tried to reach around the instrument, trying to grab his prey by the face.

"Hold it right there, you ugly son of a b****!" Jerome yelled, pointing his gun at Stalker. Eddie dropped his guitar, and hid behind Jerome.

"Hey Jerry, long time no see huh?" Eddie asked sheepishly.

"Shut up, Edd. Be happy I'm saving your $$$!" Jerome yelled. "So, whatcha gonna do?" he asked the Infected, his finger putting pressure on the trigger.

((Request to create a character to plot device Stalker out of this! Very Happy ))

"Alright..." Max said with a light sigh. He was hungry and tired, and as the shock faded he found that he was in pain too. Leaning on the police officer who had saved him, he suddenly fell asleep.
___

Stalker watched the man with the gun, at first not moving. But the jerk stole his prey... and without a doubt he was going to shoot Stalker too. Quietly the infected reached to his waist and grabbed a can from it with his metallic hand, looking briefly at the text and - more importantly - the picture adorning it. An eye and a tear. Good enough. His sharp, claw-like fingers dug into it and broke through the flimsy steel cover, beginning to release a sharp, colored gas - tear gas! Stalker tossed the can at his opponent, aiming for his stomach, before turning and dashing for any exit he could find. Luckily, a huge hole lay in one of the walls and he just dashed through it, searching for a dark place where he could see and ambush his followers.

Because after all, the police were rarely smart enough to not follow.

Shaman hoisted the boy up over his shoulder and took him to the outpost. He looked out at the sky.

The sun was setting.

Jerome and Eddie fell on the floor, coughing and tearing up from the gas. Jerome pulled a bandana over his mouth to breath, and followed the Infected's path. He raised his gun, cautious of the infected. "Shaman, when can you give me some backup? This infected is a sneaky *******...and Rosa, get Eddie. Punk kid keeps getting out."

Eddie, still coughing, felt for his guitar, and picking it up, crawled out of the bathroom. Still feeling the effects of the gas. He looked to his left, and saw a black haired girl coming his way. "Great...more police..."

Stalker soon found the spot he was looking for - a small crevace of sorts, hidden behind a corner. He dashed into it and, using the few moments of time he knew he had, brought out a handgun. He wasn't all that fluent with it, not when he had no time to aim or prepare, but hopefully the short distance would make up for it as he aimed the gun where he knew his follower would come. He only took a moment to make sure the weapon was still loaded.

He would normally have taken his shotgun, but he knew he had no time to reload it if it was out of ammo. And while pouncing his prey could prove more effective, he wasn't stupid. He had learned long ago; For a policeman, always shoot.

As soon as he'd see the policeman or anyone else come around the corner to where he was, he'd shoot and keep his gun trained on them. He didn't quite care where he hit, as long as he hit.

The moment Stalker brought out his handgun, all hell broke lose. All over the large store the distinctive series of clicks that signaled activating infected rang out. The infected were awake. And they wern't happy.

Jerome halted to a stop, listening to the sounds of the infected. He turned to Eddie and Rosa, and said, "Be quiet, we gotta get out of here! The infected...they're awake." Jerome reached to his holster. "Ed, take this." He gave Eddie a handgun, and asked, "You know how to shoot a gun?"

"Yeah," Eddie responded, "Used to shoot stuff all the time back at my grandpa's house."

"Good," Jerome said back. "Rosa, be careful with your gun. Don't shoot unless you have to." Jerome and Eddie headed towards the entrance, and Jerome radioed to Shaman and Matthew, "Matt, Shaman, Jerome here. I might need bakup...keep your finger on the trigger Matt. Shaman, get here ASAP. We have an infected horde in the store."

Hearing the sounds of the infected, Stalker couldn't help but chuckle. It didn't sound like a human chuckle, not even close, but he'd be damned if he let having a broken voice keep him from expressing happiness.

Either way, he had backup now. Lots and lots of backup, and many infected stupid enough to die in his stead. He crouched down, tending to his wounded side for a little bit and keeping his gun out, ready to fire on any human that passed by. Then he got up to his feet, and stealthily began to move back to where he knew the humans were. He stayed out of sight for now, since the humans were likely on guard and would shoot the first thing they saw anyway.

Two infected clambered out of the back storage room, screeching loudly as metal claws burst through their formally human skin. It was not known WHY infected sought out humans. But they did, and when there found them, there was usually bloodshed.
